Biography

Since 1988, Janet P. Sistare has been a civil litigator representing businesses in state, federal and appellate courts, as well as in independent and inter-company arbitrations and mediations. Her litigation practice involved representation of insurance carriers in subrogation claims for product liability, fires, and other catastrophic losses; first-party defense of arson, fraud, and bad faith claims; third-party defense of personal injury and automobile accident claims; and providing legal opinions on insurance coverage issues.

Ms. Sistare was a Partner with Blackburn & Sistare from 1991 to 1996, and with Moller, Peck & O'Brien, L.L.C., from 1997 to 1999. She also served as Co-chairperson of the Hartford County Bar Association, Small Firms Committee (1999-2000), and as a Faculty Member of the Connecticut Bar Association's Institute of Trial Advocacy (1999).

In 2000, Ms. Sistare took a temporary leave of absence to raise her young son and daughter. In 2004, she returned to practice in an of counsel position with two Massachusetts firms.

Ms. Sistare received her B.A. with honors, with a double major from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst in 1985, and her J.D. from the Western New England University School of Law in 1988. She was admitted to practice in the states of Massachusetts and Pennsylvania in 1988, Connecticut in 1989, and most recently in New York in 2015. She is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Dutchess County Bar Association, Ulster County Bar Association, and the Mid-Hudson Women's Bar Association. She is a former Director for the ARC of Dutchess.

Ms. Sistare currently practices in the fields of medical malpractice defense and nursing home liability defense.
